Wine teaching is John’s parallel career to his work as a professional actor- a factor which impinges naturally on his lively and stimulating tastings and lectures. He is often accused of being ‘passionate’ about the subject!
John’s watchword is “Wine without fear”, and although he frequently addresses seasoned wine tasters he particularly enjoys introducing newcomers to the fascinating world of wine, when the task of beating a pathway through the ‘jungle’ is both instructive and yet great fun.

No matter the theme, the end objective in view is greater confidence both in tasting and in choosing wine, and enhancing the pleasures of the table by matching it successfully with food.
A regular tutor and blogger for The Wine Education Service, John’s wider client base extends from private winetasting groups and wine clubs to in-house presentations and wine events for corporate organisations including The National Trust; Channel 4; Astra Zeneca, IBM; Glaxo – and even the Home Office.

An earlier part of his career found him regularly lecturing on wine to captive (nonetheless willing) audiences on cruise ships!

John is also an enthusiastic domestic cook, having recently published 'Dog's Dinners' – (Fantom Publishing) a lifetime's collection of favourite recipes. Some years ago he won "A Taste of Italy" competition run by the BBC in conjuction with Zanussi, judged by leading Italian chef/food writer Antonio Carluccio.
