AIMS
To inform, educate and inspire the general public on the subject of wines
To provide easy access to well qualified, objective wine presenters.
To maintain and improve standards of wine education.
To establish a collective profile as a recognised professional group.
|
|
WHO ARE OUR MEMBERS?
AWE members are specialist wine educators who come from varied backgrounds with most having experience either in the wine trade or in education or both. Several members are active in the media as wine writers or radio/TV presenters. Our members hold WSET Diploma or have demonstrated equivalent knowledge in wine (some are Masters of Wine), and are experienced in presenting on wine in general or on their
specialist subjects.
To become a member, applicants must have passed the WSET Diploma (or equivalent). They should supply two satisfactory references from people who have heard the applicant speak and must then be evaluated by a current member before acceptance. Members are encouraged to supplement their knowledge by attending regular seminars, tastings and vineyard tours, which are arranged by the Association.
Full Members fulfil all the above requirements. In a minority of cases, members also trade in wine, in which case this is clearly indicated on their individual entry.
Associate Members have highly detailed knowledge in a specific field, which is indicated on their individual entry. Associate Members are assessed on their communication skills in exactly the same way as Full Members but do not hold the WSET Diploma or equivalent. The AWE insists that all members present wines objectively.

OUR QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY
To become a member, applicants must have passed the WSET Diploma (or
equivalent). They should supply satisfactory references from two
non-members who have heard the applicant speak and must then be evaluated by a
current member before acceptance. Members are encouraged to supplement their
knowledge by attending regular seminars, tastings and vineyard tours, which are
arranged by the Association.
Full members are wine educators who do not trade in wine.
Associate members are equally qualified wine educators whose income comes
partly from trading in wine.
AWE insists that all members present wines objectively.
