Laura’s
love of wine began at the tender age of six when she had the good fortune to be
living spitting distance, appropriately enough, from the ‘Route des Grands
Crus’ in Burgundy. Twenty
years later Laura entered the wine trade with the reputable German shipper
Hallgarten. During this time she achieved her WSET Diploma and a realisation
that the wine business was to be her life-long vocation. Following
the birth of her first child, Laura set up her own small business selling wine,
then spent seven enjoyable years with a Midlands based merchant and shipper as
assistant buyer, marketing manager and adviser to their restaurant clients with
regard to their wine lists.
Her experience in staff training was really
a pre-cursor to Laura doing what she enjoys most – talking about wine and
instilling an interest in and love of wine to all those who attend her talks,
tastings, lectures and courses.
Her
focus is very much on the pleasure principle of wine. She appreciates wine as a
magnificent science, but drinking wine is all about pleasure. She
believes that a little knowledge goes a long way in increasing that pleasure
experience.
Much of her work involves corporate
tastings, wine courses and lectures to wine clubs, as well as consultancy,
writing and staff training for the on-trade.
Her
particular interests embrace all regions of France, of course, Spain, South
America, Australasia and South Africa. Wine quizzes have proved popular as have
her occasional organised trips to wine regions. |
