Carole qualified as an electronic engineer but having been practically weaned on her father’s home-made wine, it was not a great shock when she realised that the wine business was more to her taste.
Carole joined what is now The Chalfont and Amersham wine club nearly 20 years ago and served on the committee for 12 years, as both events co-ordinator and chair. During this time, she successfully passed the level 3 Wine and Spirit Education Trust exam. With her husband’s acquision of a small chain of restaurants, Carole became the restaurants’ wine buyer, researching wines and attending trade tastings in search of a list to suit. Through this Carole began working with the International Wine Challenge, the biggest Wine competition in the world, which she still continues to do. Having now passed her Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma, she is expanding her horizons by giving presentations and leading tasting evenings to groups wanting to understand more about wine. In 2018, she also passed the WSET level 3 Sake exam with Distinction.
Other Wine Work Carole is a long standing crew member at the International Wine Challenge, in charge of the tasting floor during the competition weeks and lending a hand with flighting, both in London and in 2019, China. She has also been to Japan to help with the IWC Sake competition. She also frequently works at trade tastings, both on tables and behind the scenes. She is also involved with a local brewery, building up their wine offering.
