Paul’s interest in wine was first sparked long ago by an accidental holiday in Beaujolais. Since then he has travelled frequently around the world’s wine regions and regularly attends tastings and also judges in the UK and Europe, particularly in Italy. It enables him to keep up with the latest developments and communicate a sense of place.
He won the prestigious Wine Trade Club Paten Scholarship while studying for the WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits, which he passed at L5 Honours level.
A particular specialist subject is Biodynamics, an environmentally friendly agricultural philosophy which is being adopted by many of the world’s top wine producers. He is also a member of Slow Food, the international organisation that promotes food and wine culture, encourages regional artisan produce and defends biodiversity.
Recently, Paul has been developing unique expertise in new Blockchain technology and how this will transform the wine industry. He is the first wine writer to cover this topic and spoke at the wine2wine wine business forum in Verona in December 2017.
Paul has an MBA in Business Strategy and has a Personal Alchohol Licence. Corporate clients appreciate this mix of wine knowledge and business understanding. He teaches Public courses at all levels, and he also is a WSET accredited tutor. Paul also acts as a wine tour guide.
Whether talking to corporate or public audiences, his informal style and infectious enthusiasm ensure an enjoyable time for all participants regardless of whether they are novice or expert. After all, wine is fun!
Paul judged at the International Wines and Spirits Competition (IWSC) and the International Wine Challenge (IWC).
