Rose is one of only 418 qualified Masters of Wine worldwide. She is the only Master of Wine based in Scotland offering bespoke wine tasting events, virtual online consumer tastings and corporate entertainment events.
She runs her own wine school in Edinburgh, Glasgow and St Andrews offering wine tastings and masterclasses for beginners to advanced level (online virtual tastings) – and fine wine dinners held in Scotland’s top restaurants. Her wine school was rated as Scotland’s best in the Top Ten places to learn about wine in the UK (The Telegraph). She is renowned for her fun relaxed and very lively presentation style.
She also travels throughout the UK hosting corporate entertainment events and team building days for blue chip companies catering for up to 500 delegates – and is a popular guest speaker for conference interludes, charity lunches and corporate dinners.
Rose is an award winning journalist – she has written a drinks column for The Scotsman newspaper for the past 34 years – and also contributes to international magazines and national newspapers. She is a past winner of the Glenfiddich writing award and finalist for Harpers Summit French Wine Critic and Champagne Louis Roederer writing awards. She is currently the wine expert for BBC Radio Scotland Kitchen Cafe programme and has presented a 13 part series on food and wine for Tyne Tees Television. Rose works as a wine judge in international wine competitions from China to Chile. Currently she is the Andre Simon Food & Drink Awards (2021) drinks judge.
As a great lover of travel – Rose fell in love with wine whilst studying Italian in Perugia during her university holidays. After graduating from St Andrews University, she returned to Italy to work for several Tuscan wine estates and then worked in London as a wine expert for Sotheby’s auctioneers in their wine department – which gave her a great grounding in the classics.
Rose now personally organises and hosts her own wine tours abroad. Her forthcoming tours will be to South Africa, Austria, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany, Spain, Burgundy and Bordeaux. She also hosts bespoke private and corporate wine tours for companies entertaining their clients abroad.
In her spare time, Rose is also an active charity fundraiser. She created the Comic Relief Wine Fair in 2003. This popular wine fair is held bi-annually in central Edinburgh to help raise funds for Wine Relief (an official part of Comic Relief) with over 400 people attending each fair to taste the new Wine Relief selections from supermarkets, high street and independent merchants – and has so far raised over £30,000 for Comic Relief.
Rose is also a member of the Institute of Masters of Wine and Circle of Wine Writers.
