WSET Diploma Graduate (Merit); WSET Level 5 Honours Diploma (Merit); WSET Certified Educator; Certified Educator on Sherry and Portuguese Wines.
Tufi, a graduate of UFMG Medical School and also a holder of a PhD degree on Surgery, has studied wines since before college. Being a professor at University of Vale do Rio Verde (UninCor) since 1979, extending his abilities and experience to wine teaching was only natural, and he teaches wine since the 1990s. This second career as a wine educator has been boosted by his holding of all WSET qualifications up to and including Level 5 Honours Diploma (Pass with Merit). He is also a WSET Certified Educator (up to Level 3), as well as a Formador Homologado del Vino de Jerez (Certified Educator on Sherry). He took the German Wine Academy V course.
He lives and works in Brazil’s south-east, teaching at The Wine School Brazil (WSET APP), mainly in São Paulo but also in several other cities. He is a co-founder of SOCAVI, a very active wine association. He organizes and conducts tastings in many Brazilian important wine events.
In his own capacity, Tufi can tutor wine tastings for private clients, wine associations and clubs; other activities are those of assessor for restaurants and all businesses selling wine, as well as the organisation of wine tours.
His leisure activities encompass classical music, cooking and antique automobiles.
Tufi has made study tours of wine producing areas in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, USA and France. His home town (Tres Corações) is the site of a pioneering experiment as a fine grape producing area – a subject studied in depth by him for his WSET Level 5 (Honours) qualification.
Among his many vinous interests, dessert and fortified wines are special predilections.
Tufi is presently a candidate to the Program of the Institute of Masters of Wine, at Stage 2.
