It was whilst working for a
hi-tech company in Cambridge for 15 years that I developed an interest in wine.
I travelled mainly throughout Southern Europe, so naturally that was where my
interest began.
During the late 80’s/90’s I used to regularly travel down to Provence on
vacation, stopping off en-route in Burgundy. I can still recall my first
memorable encounters with some wonderful Meursaults! To this day, Burgundy
remains a great passion of mine.
About 8 years ago my
partner Vicky and I decided on a lifestyle change (as you do) and we moved from
Cambridge to the wilds of Lincolnshire. We bought a pub/restaurant just outside
Lincoln. Vicky does the cooking with her team of Chefs and I am involved in all
aspects of wine. I completed my Wine Diploma in 2003.
We formed a wine
merchants business two years ago (D’Vine Wines) and we have a shop out the back.
We have been very fortunate to have had the support and guidance over the years
of renowned MW Derek Smedley.
I also teach wine classes
every week at The Farmers Arms and do regular tastings and themed Food and Wine
nights.
It's great to have both a
Restaurant and a Wine Merchants as most people love food and wine and so we are
able to satisfy two passions at the same time!! |
