AWE members are specialist educators who come from all over the UK (we have an educator in every county in the UK) and, increasingly around the world, who have experience either in the wine trade or in education or both. A number of members are active in the media a wine writers or radio/TV presenters. On average our educators have over 20 years experience.

“…some of the most dedicated wine educators in the world’…”  – Jancis Robinson MW

Our members must have obtained the WSET Diploma or an equivalent qualification, and some are Masters of Wine. All members are experienced in presenting on wine in general, or on their specialist subjects, and have been assessed on these specific skills. The AWE insists that all members present wines objectively.

Our ethos is:

  • To inform, educate and inspire the general public on the subject of wines
  • To provide easy access to well qualified, objective wine presenters
  • To maintain and improve standards of wine education
  • To establish a collective profile as a recognised professional group

AWE members educate, inspire and enthuse people about the subject of wine in many forms. These include:

  • Corporate events
  • Club/Society tastings
  • Private tastings
  • WSET courses
  • Wine courses
  • Trade/Sommelier training
  • Public/trade wine shows
  • Food and wine matching
  • After dinner speaking
  • Wine tours

“The AWE is an invaluable organisation for wine educators. Through informative, insightful and collaborative events it provides learning, networking and job opportunities for its members. I really enjoy and value continually expanding my wine understanding with my peers.” – Lydia Harrison MW, WSET Head Office Educator
