Phil
has been developing his love and knowledge of food and wine since he was an
undergraduate. He is a highly
experienced lecturer, author, and event organiser, partly gained through time
spent in the University system. Since
giving his first tasting in the 70’s he has built up an extensive library and
contributes articles to magazines. With a relaxed and informal style, he
believes that wine should be approachable and fun for all.
He
has been following New World wines since they first became available in the UK.
He often gives tastings where wines can be selected from many regions,
but he is particularly keen to feature wines from Italy, Spain, Portugal,
California, Chile, and Argentina. His love of fortified wines has led to several
tastings on “Fizz & Fortified”.
Phil
enjoys encouraging others to develop their knowledge and love of wine, and has
developed several popular courses including The World of Grapes, Choosing Wine
with Confidence and The Wine Regions of the World. Two are given as community
courses at The University of Bath. He tutors WSET for the West of England Wine
& Spirit Association and runs the Bath Wine Appreciation Circle. He is happy
to give talks and tastings for wine societies, weekend events, charities and
corporate.
