Sandy’s first career was as a training and
development manager in a multi-national corporation. In 1994, feeling the need for a change of direction, he
harnessed a life-long passion for wine to launch a second career as a wine
educator.
The wine school, which
Sandy now manages with fellow AWE members, Lena Inger and Vivienne Franks, is
one of the biggest of its kind in the country.
Trading as The Wine Education Service Limited, it runs a wide ranges of
courses and events for wine lovers. Courses
are designed to suit all levels of knowledge and are delivered in a relaxed and
friendly atmosphere. There are six
venues in London and regional centres in Aberdeen, Birmingham, Edinburgh and
Manchester. In addition, there are
wine workshops, tutored wine tastings, wine tours and holidays. The Wine Education Service can specifically tailor-make any
event for a client.
In his own capacity, Sandy tutors wine tastings
for private clients and wine clubs. Alsace,
Burgundy, Rhône, Languedoc, California, New Zealand and vertical tastings of Château
de Beaucastel, Château Cissac, Mas de Daumas Gassac and Château Musar are some
of his specialities.
Sandy joined the Association of Wine Educators in
1997 and is a former Treasurer and Council Member. He is a judge at the International Wine Challenge and a
regular member of Decanter Magazine’s tasting panel.
